Practisilk is a surgical suture marketed by AIP Medical. It is a monofilament, non-absorbable AISI 316 LVM stainless steel suture that provides good traction and permanent wound support.

It does not cause tissue reaction and passes through the tissue without damaging it. The lack of capillary action of this suture prevents excessive bacterial growth in the target area.

Steel sutures are normally used as sternum sutures for bone fixation (in the sternal closure phase) after open chest surgery. They are also used for abdominal wound closure, hernia repair, banding and tendon repair. However, there is a contraindication in patients with a sensitivity or allergy to steel and metals.
