Practigut Chrom

Absorbable Chromic Catgut suture

Description

AIP Medical’s Practigut Chrome is a catgut suture brand. Chrome catgut is a natural and absorbable type of suture. It consists of collagen taken from the submucosa of the small intestine of ruminants. It is a twisted polyfilament suture with a monofilament appearance, resorbed by phagocytosis and the treatment with chromium salts allows it to be resorbed less rapidly than plain catgut. This also gives it a better resistance to body enzymes. It differs from plain catgut by its brown colour.

Chrome catgut is used for sutures and ligatures in general surgery and is very suitable for lining or bonding soft tissue, including ophthalmic applications. It is also used in gynaecology, obstetrics, urology and gastrointestinal surgery.

However, it is not suitable for cardiovascular and neurosurgery. Furthermore, it is not suitable for use in cases where long tissue support is required or where the patient’s healing is delayed. It should not be used in case of tissue infection and in case of allergy to collagen and chromium.

Our Practigut Chrome is available in dozens for medical use. For more information, please contact us.

Tissue reaction

Moderate

Absorption

By phagocytosis. The rate of absorption is slowed down by chromizing. Complete mass absorption in approximately 70 days. Approximately 50% of tensile strength remain after 14 days. When used in infected tissues or in tissues with increased levels of proteolytic enzymes (stomach, cervix, vagina) it is more quickly absorbed.
