Saccharomyces Boulardii-Vet

Tropical strain of yeast that serves as an anti-diarrheal

Description

BOULARDII-VET® is a food supplement based on Saccharomyces boulardii (CNCM I-745) ultra-yeast. It is a tropical strain of yeast that serves as an anti-diarrheal in humans but also in animals. More effective than lactobacillus bacteria in maintaining and restoring the intestinal flora, Boulardii is named after the French scientist who first isolated this yeast in 1923 from lychee and mangosteen fruits. The latter had indeed been intrigued by the populations of Southeast Asia who chewed the skin of lychees and mangosteens to try to control the symptoms of cholera.

Saccharomyce Boulardii has the property to grow and reach high concentrations in the gastrointestinal tract and to remain there for several days.  It survives perfectly the acidity of the stomach as well as proteolysis thanks to its optimal pH between 4,5 and 6,5). Its optimal temperature of 37° C allows it to survive in the body unlike its variant “Saccharomyces cerevisiae”. Because of its fungal nature, it is resistant to antibiotics, which makes it a choice supplement for antibiotic therapy.

Offered to veterinarians by AIP Medical SA, this probiotic is suitable for dogs, cats and exotic animals. It has very few side effects and is a partner of choice for veterinarians to reduce the adverse effects of antibiotic therapy. This is particularly the case for diarrhea associated with antibiotic therapy or in the treatment of acute diarrhea.
